Travel insurance is an important safeguard when travelling overseas, as no one can predict what may occur. In my case for overseas travel, I use the objective review summaries found on the Australian website ‘Canstar’ to make up my decision. http://www.canstar.com.au/travel-insurance/
They rank and rate the insurance offerings according to how many people, age and the destinations of various popular world locations. Then rank the inclusions such as excess amount, extent of monetary cover and other variances in the level of of category cover. I find the information very practical and handy to see all offerings in one smart PDF file – which they have for download.
Other general tips for choosing travel insurance and what to look for in your policies in claiming can be found via the Australian government’s website. Moneysmart – Insurance claims – https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/managing-your-money/insurance/travel-insurance#claim
A general rule to ensure an effective insurance claim is to take photos of all items you are carrying that are considered of value (basically anything that if got lost you would care about). This may be the actual luggage case, camera etc. Have these photos uploaded to your Google drive or dropbox online (also preferably on an usb).
